A Journey to Delta State: Lesson 5 (Give Thanks in Everything)

My journey to Delta State gave me a deeper understanding about living a life of gratitude.
.
Many only give thanks to God when something good only happened to them but if otherwise, like the Israelites who complained bitterly when they had no food and water to drink; they murmur, grumble and blame God for everything and Moses who took them out.
.
After about eight hours journey to Delta State, coupled with the car break down for about two hours, we got to our destination safely. We arrived at Ughelli, a rural part of Delta state towards evening time since eight o'clock when we left Agofure park in Mile Two Lagos.
.
On the second day which was the main reason for my journey, we prepared for the wedding ceremony of my friend whose fiancée was based in Delta state. Shortly after the church wedding, we traveled about thirty minutes or less to her parent's hometown.
.
Arriving at the hometown, houses there were a mixture of mud houses and buildings made with sandcrete hollow block wall. The major road leading to Efurun-Otor was tarred but their interconnecting roads were bad. It was a Urhobo environment. We were greeted with a phrase, "Wa do". A hot roasted ground nut in its pod was hawked coupled with roasted prawn and a 'maggot' looking like thing. (Apologies, I forgot to ask for the name).
.
While the music was going on as we were eating our groundnut before the food was served, their local music entertainer thrilled guests with their music. It was called 'Abio' and the Ibos called it 'Aria-Aria'. There was a singer, two backups, a guitarist, a bassist, a drummer who played the sneer drum, hi-hat and the bass drum with so much energy.
.
There was also a gong player who played the gong at a pre-determined interval to give it a local feel. A performer was dancing to the rhythmic pattern of the music. It was so energetic as he was dancing. When my friend wife's sister was dancing, I had to tell her jokingly that I won't buy her paracetamol and she told me with an enthusiastic smile that she is used to it.
.
Why I'm sharing this experience for us to learn is this. The residents in that community had never tasted civilization. They had electricity but no westernized culture. They were in the oil producing community in Nigeria but not enjoying its benefits.
.
After we finished eating, some of them were carrying our leftovers as if they'll clear it, only to eat it. Don't get me wrong, every tribe has a percentage of those who were living in abject poverty.
.
Why should you give thanks?
.
Some had food but cannot eat. Some had the best of food but cannot eat it. Some had well paid jobs but do not have peace of mind. Some do not have jobs but are still happy with the 'little' they have. Some are married without an issue but some had children but their children are their source of sorrow.
.
Some are engaged to be married but they're trapped in hell. Some are single and happy while some are single and frustrated. Some have good health but some are spending their income to maintain their health. Some are complaining that their body parts aren't big enough or too big while some are praying to God to have legs to walk or hands to use.
.
Dearly beloved, life is a phase. You have the power to determine the kind of life you want to live, your approach to life determines this. Be grateful to God in every state of life you are knowing fully well that He's got a better plan for you. Worry, complain or bitterness will not change your situation but a life of total trust, patience, persistent prayer and gratitude to God will move you to the next level.
.
Why complain when your situation is better than thousands or millions of people in the world? If only you know those who are wishing to be in your state, you'll quit complaining to God and live a life of gratitude.
.
"In everything, give thanks, for this is the will of God concerning you".
.
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayers and supplications, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God: and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus"
